Privacy policy

Effective 1 November 2026

Your music stays with you.

StringIO’s tuner, chord explorer and metronome work offline. No account, ads or tracking.

About this policy

This privacy policy explains how StringIO handles information when you use its tuner, chord explorer and metronome. These tools work offline. StringIO does not require an account.

Microphone access

The tuner uses your microphone, with your permission, to estimate the pitch of the note you play. Audio is processed in memory on your device. StringIO does not save microphone recordings or send microphone audio to us or anyone else. Microphone capture stops when you leave the tuner for Chords or About, or put the app in the background. Chord playback and the metronome do not need microphone access.

Settings stored on your device

StringIO saves your selected tuning, chord-diagram handedness and metronome preferences in the app’s local storage. Metronome preferences include tempo, time signature, subdivision, accents, volume and sound. These settings are used to restore your choices when you return. Your operating system may include these settings in device backups, according to your device and backup settings.

Analytics, advertising and sharing

This version of StringIO contains no advertising, analytics, tracking or automatic crash-reporting services. It does not collect device identifiers, location or contacts. We do not receive your microphone audio, settings or usage activity, and do not sell or share this information. StringIO does not connect to a developer-operated server to run its tools.

Support messages and external links

If you choose to email support, your mail app opens a draft. Nothing is sent until you send it. The draft includes the app version and operating-system name; you can edit or remove these details. We receive your email address and any message or attachments you choose to send, and use them to answer your request and investigate the issue. Support email is forwarded through Forward Email and received in Gmail; these providers process the correspondence to deliver and store it. We keep support correspondence only as long as needed to handle the request and related follow-up. You can request deletion by contacting support. Your email provider and any website you choose to open handle information under their own privacy policies.

Privacy policy website

The StringIO website and public privacy policy are hosted on Google Firebase Hosting. When you visit the website in a browser, Google receives technical request information, such as your IP address and browser information, to deliver and protect the site. The website contains no advertising, analytics scripts, account registration or contact forms. Visiting the website is optional and is separate from using StringIO’s offline tools. Google processes hosting information under its own privacy policy.

Your choices and deletion

You can change or revoke microphone permission in your device’s system settings. The chord explorer and metronome remain available without it. Local preferences remain until you clear StringIO’s app storage on Android or remove the app. Operating-system backups are managed separately and may restore settings after reinstallation. There is no StringIO account or server-side profile to delete. For questions about support correspondence or to request its deletion, use the support contact below.

Changes to this policy

If StringIO’s data handling changes, we will update this policy and its effective date. The current policy is always available from About → Privacy policy within the app.
